With the meet coming down to the 200 free relay, the Albright College women's swimming team swept the top two places to clinch a 113-92 victory over defending MAC champion Widener, Saturday in the Natatorium.
With Widener needing a first and third place finish in the final relay to snatch victory, Albright's quartet of
Codi Herr,
Tricia Janowiak,
Gwen Stefan and
Aimee Snyder put the competition out of reach with a winning time of 1:42.52.
Adina Gaughran,
Kaitlyn Huizing,
Gwen Fesmire and
Amanda Fisher took second place for good measure.
In addition to leading off the decisive relay, Herr also set two pool records in the win.
Widener took three of the first five events, but Albright countered with
Amanda Osterlind in the 1000 free (11:03.77) and Herr in the 50 free (24.66- a pool record).
Following
Madison Hauk's victory in the 200 fly, Herr added another pool record with a win in the 100 free, in 53.51.
Osterlind and Stefan soon took 1-2 in the 500 free, helping to establish the Lions' lead.
Albright improves to 2-1 overall and will host Ursinus on Wednesday.
