Box Score
The Albright College volleyball team hung with Commonwealth finalist and preseason favorite Elizabethtown for two games on the road but eventually fell 3-0 (20-25, 23-25, 7-25), breaking the Lions' three-match winning streak.
Christa Mantz again led the way with eight kills, while freshman
Brandy Blimline had seven kills and hit an efficient .333. Junior
Alexa Jones had 21 digs and sophomore
Morgan Heath added 10 digs and 25 assists.
Albright led 16-15 in game one before the Blue Jays rallied for a three-point lead. The Lions crept back to 20-21 on Mantz's kill, but couldn't close the gap completely in a 25-20 loss.
The Lions were better in the second set, clawing back from a 15-10 deficit to tie on Blimline and
Laura van Bendegem's block assist, and going ahead 23-22 on a kill by freshman
Kyrsten Stanford. Unfortunately for Albright, Elizabethtown rallied to win the final three points, and the game.
If nothing else, the Lions left knowing they can compete for a league title after matching the Blue Jays (four first place votes in the Commonwealth preseason poll) for two tough sets. The area of concern comes from Albright's response in the third game, when they slipped to a 21-3 deficit en route to a 25-7 defeat.
Albright is 3-9, and 1-1 in Commonwealth play. The Lions face Penn State-Harrisburg and Misericordia in a tri-match, Saturday in Harrisburg.
