The Albright College volleyball team fell victim to long Widener runs in the opening two games before dropping a hard-fought third set and losing 3-0 (16-25, 14-25, 25-27), Tuesday night in the Bollman Center.
Freshman
Kyrsten Stanford had a team-high nine kills, while sophomore
Morgan Heath had 22 assists.
Christa Mantz added seven kills, 13 receptions and 13 digs.
Tied 4-4 early in the opening game, the Pride went on an 8-2 run to break away. Albright was still within six points at 22-16, but Widener grabbed the final three points to close out the Lions.
The Pride were efficient in game one (12 kills, four errors), while Albright committed 10 errors in the game.
The Lions would take a 10-7 lead and force a Widener timeout in the second game, but allowed the Pride another extended run as Albright ended the set on an 18-4 skid.
Albright was much better in game three, battling back from a 10-5 deficit to lead 12-11 on Mantz's kill. The Lions stretched that lead to 18-13 before the visiting Pride came roaring back to tie at 19-19.
Stanford's kill after a long rally put the Lions up 20-19, but it was the final time they would lead in the match. The set was even at 23, 24 and 25 before Widener put Albright away with two straight points.
The Lions fall to 4-11, 1-2 and face Delaware Valley and Wilkes on Saturday in the MAC Crossover Tournament.
