Men's Swimming Wins Regular Season Finale Over Susquehanna

Results

Sophomore Ralph Porrazzo paced the Lions with three outstanding performances to lead Albright to a 116-89 victory over Susquehanna University on Saturday.

Porrazzo was an integral part of three events including a key win in the 200 yard freestyle event with a time of 1:47.51.

During the first break, the junior swimmers honored three seniors for their contributions; Brad Epstein, Zach McElheny and Scott Mermelstein swam their final meet at Albright's natatorium.

Porrazzo would claim another victory after the break with a time of 53.74 seconds in 100 yard backstroke. The Governor Mifflin High School graduate finished just sixty-six one-hundreds of a second short of the current pool record of 53.08 seconds set by Kutztown's Matt Rowan in 2004.

Freshman Rick Sutton claimed two victories on the day. His first victory came in the 1000 yard freestyle event, with a dominating time of 10:08.81 which helped the team retain the lead. That victory was more than 31 seconds faster than the second-place finisher (McElheny).

Susquehanna captain Chadd Lee kept things close playing key roles in two Crusader victories. Lee finished with a 2:01.28 time in the 200 yard individual medley. He was a key contributor in the 200 yard medley relay team that earned first-place with a time of 1:40.87. Well after the meet's outcome was determined, he also notched a victory in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.62.

Rookie Drew Leahy squeaked out a victory in the 100 yard butterfly over teammate Adam Kurtz with a 53.56 second finish which trumped Kurtz by 39-one hundredths of a second.

Sutton's second victory in the 500 yard freestyle event (4:53.20) put the finishing touches on a momentum-building day heading into the Middle Atlantic Conference championships at Wilkes University on Feb. 10-12.

Porrazzo and his teammates - Kurtz, Timmy Pierce and Mike McBride - concluded the meet with a victory in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:18.17.

Susquehanna's Michael Heller set a new pool record in the 50 free, with a time of 20.96.

The Lions finish with a regular season record of 11-1, including an undefeated season in conference play. Their lone loss came against Division II Bloomsburg University, which was a  close 109-96 decision.
