The Albright College volleyball team closed out the careers of four seniors in style on Thursday, beat visiting Arcadia 3-1 in the Bollman Center.
The Lions prevailed 25-10, 23-25, 25-21, 25-21 as seniors
Alyssa Hoogendoorn,
Casey McFadden,
Alexa Jones and
Erin Wentzel played their final game in the red and white.
Hoogendoorn led the way with 12 kills and hit .321, leading Albright in hitting percentage for the third season in her career.
McFadden had a team-high 21 digs, while Jones (11 digs, 3 aces) and Wentzel (10 assists) also reached double-figures in at least one category.
Junior
Christa Mantz had 12 kills and 16 digs, while classmate
Morgan Heath added 23 assists.
The Lions ran away with game one thanks to their seniors. McFadden's ace made it 15-7, a heads-up attack from Wentzel pushed it to 17-8, and Jones had consecutive service aces late in a dominating 25-10 result.
The Knights came out stronger in set two, leading 12-4 after
Olivia Shaner's ace. Mantz took over, producing kills to make it 14-9, 16-12 and 19-17, but a huge solo block from
Jessica Gorbacheva helped Arcadia escape.
Jones' third ace of the day made it 4-2 Albright in the third set, and she later had a kill to push the Lions' advantage to 12-7. Wentzel's ace made it 19-11, but Arcadia fought all the way back to within two points before Hoogendoorn's spike.
The fourth and final set was tied at 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 before Albright took the lead on another emphatic Hoogendoorn spike. Mantz had kills for two of the final three points as the Lions closed it out.
Albright ends it 2012 campaign at 7-15, and 2-7 in the Commonwealth Conference (eighth place of 10).
