Results
The Albright College women's swimming team was victorious against a former coach, as the Lions beat visiting Cabrini 104-81 on Thursday night.
The Cavaliers were led by new head coach
Cindy Ikeler, who won three MAC championships as a Lion, and three more as an assistant with the women's team.
The Lions jumped all over Cabrini with the three fastest times in the opening 200 medley relay. Leading the way was
Danielle Hassard,
Liz Muller,
Adina Gaughran and
Amanda Osterlind (2:03.03), ahead of
Karley Thompson,
Emily Summers,
Codi Herr and
Amanda Fisher (2:08.80).
Gwen Fesmire,
Allie Peters,
Melanie Roy and
Erika McEnany were third, but could not score.
Albright then took the top two places in the 1000 free with a pair of swimmers not used to distance races. Sophomore
Gwen Stefan won in 11:12.40, while senior
Madison Hauk (11:39.35) was second.
The Lions went 1-2-3 in the 200 free, led again by defending MAC Swimmer of the Week Herr (1:57.10).
Kaitlyn Huizing was second and Peters placed third.
Albright swept the 50 free as well, with
Tricia Janowiak (26.29),
Lauren Cormier (26.83) and Gaughran. Senior
Kari Keller (2:21.83) took the 200 IM ahead of teammate Osterlind.
Roy added a victory in the 100 fly, in 1:08.28. Hauk then led a sweep in the 100 free (58.48), ahead of teammates Huizing and Keller.
Albright swam exhibitions the rest of the way, with Herr (100 back), Janowiak (500 free) and Hauk (100 breast) unofficially finishing first in subsequent races.
The Lions improve to 4-2 overall and will host Messiah on Saturday at 2 p.m., a meet that was originally scheduled to take place in York, Pa.
