Freshman
Emily Diaz scored on two corner kicks in her first collegiate game, as the Albright College women's soccer team opened the season by defeating host Penn State-Berks 3-0 on Friday.
Diaz opened the scoring in the 29th minute, heading in a corner from senior defender
Kirstie Potteiger. She repeated the feat off senior
Kim Harkins' 54th minute corner, knocking the ball in after it sailed over the head of Berks goalkeeper
Savannah Cramer.
Two other rookies combined for the final tally, as speedy freshman
Rebecca Sartorio got around the left back with 21 minutes to play and crossed to the far post, where a trailing
Kelly Burian was waiting to scramble it home.
Less than a minute earlier, Sartorio has gotten behind the defense and touched the ball past Cramer, but it ran over the endline.
Cramer made a good save on
Jordan Cassidy early in the second half, sliding out to smother her chance. In the first half Cramer had blocked Cassidy from close range after a cross fell dangerously in the goal mouth.
Albright senior
Alex Talbot cleared a shot off the line in the second half to handle Berks' best chance of the day.
The Lions are 1-0 on the season and face a tough test in their home opener tomorrow morning, hosting Montclair State at noon.
