The Albright College volleyball team suffered yet another tough loss at home, as the Lions played Messiah on Wednesday night.
Albright lost 0-3 (22-25, 22-25, 23-25), which puts the Lions' record at 1-4 in league play and puts Messiah at 3-2.
Freshman outside hitter
Maddy Greth ended the game with 8 kills, 1 ace, 13 digs, 1 solo block, and 2 block assists, while
Brandy Blimline ended with 7 kills, 3 digs, 1 solo block and 1 block assist.
In the first game of the match, both teams were neck and neck throughout the whole set. A missed serve by the Lions put Messiah in control with the score at 22-20. Libero
Caitlin Klotzbach gave the Lions a chance with a key save when there was a shot down line by Messiah. With the score at 22-24, Albright used their last timeout hoping for a win. Blocked by
Hannah Baumer and
Kristen Douglas, Albright lost the game 22-25.
Albright started the second game with a kill by Blimline. Messiah took advantage of the setter on defense and gave
Morgan Heath several digs; Heath totaled 13 digs for the whole match. At 15-21, Albright used their last time out to cause Messiah to miss their serve. Klotzbach's serving streak then brought the score to 18-22. Blimline and
Christa Mantz had a key block which made the score 22-23, but failure to communicate by Albright caused the game to end at 22-25.
A kill down line by Greth gave Albright the go-ahead lead to start off the third game. In the middle of the game Albright went through a passing slump, which didn't end until Klotzbach could finally dig the ball up. Mantz went to serve at 17-22 and brought the Lions back in the match. She ended her serving streak down just 20-23. Greth had a key kill, which brought the score to 21-23. A net call on Messiah soon allowed the Lions to tie the game at 23-23. Albright used their last time out at 23-24, facing match point. A Messiah kill ended the game at 23-25.
The Albright Lions have off until October 5, where they will play a MAC Crossover tournament at Manhattanville.
