Lions Come Up Just Short Against Messiah

Box Score

The Albright College volleyball team suffered yet another tough loss at home, as the Lions played Messiah on Wednesday night.

Albright lost 0-3 (22-25, 22-25, 23-25), which puts the Lions' record at 1-4 in league play and puts Messiah at 3-2.

Freshman outside hitter Maddy Greth ended the game with 8 kills, 1 ace, 13 digs, 1 solo block, and 2 block assists, while Brandy Blimline ended with 7 kills, 3 digs, 1 solo block and 1 block assist.

In the first game of the match, both teams were neck and neck throughout the whole set. A missed serve by the Lions put Messiah in control with the score at 22-20. Libero Caitlin Klotzbach gave the Lions a chance with a key save when there was a shot down line by Messiah. With the score at 22-24, Albright used their last timeout hoping for a win. Blocked by Hannah Baumer and Kristen Douglas, Albright lost the game 22-25.

Albright started the second game with a kill by Blimline. Messiah took advantage of the setter on defense and gave Morgan Heath several digs; Heath totaled 13 digs for the whole match. At 15-21, Albright used their last time out to cause Messiah to miss their serve. Klotzbach's serving streak then brought the score to 18-22. Blimline and Christa Mantz had a key block which made the score 22-23, but failure to communicate by Albright caused the game to end at 22-25.

A kill down line by Greth gave Albright the go-ahead lead to start off the third game. In the middle of the game Albright went through a passing slump, which didn't end until Klotzbach could finally dig the ball up. Mantz went to serve at 17-22 and brought the Lions back in the match. She ended her serving streak down just 20-23. Greth had a key kill, which brought the score to 21-23. A net call on Messiah soon allowed the Lions to tie the game at 23-23. Albright used their last time out at 23-24, facing match point. A Messiah kill ended the game at 23-25.

The Albright Lions have off until October 5, where they will play a MAC Crossover tournament at Manhattanville.
