Four unanswered goals in a 10:05 span of the second half helped Alvernia knock off Albright 5-2 on Wednesday, in a Commonwealth Conference game with playoff implications for both sides.
Alexis Krall opened the scoring with a rebound off a
Marguerite DeLucas save, two minutes into the second half.
Krall then assisted on a pair of goals, to
Margaret Wentzel and
Summer Liberto. Liberto soon finished off another rebound to make it 4-0 in the 48th minute of play.
Albright answered immediately, with
Alyssa Tourdot knocking in
Morgan Raneiri's corner less than two minutes later.
Mackenzie Faight then scored with more than 14 minutes remaining, forcing Alvernia to call timeout.
Neither team could break through in a tight first half. DeLucas made a save on
Amanda Galanti off an early Alvernia penalty corner. Soon after, Tourdot was saved at the other end.
Alvernia had a string of penalty corners late in the half, with DeLucas coming up with another stop- this time on
Kyle Dillman.
Albright falls to 6-10, 2-4 and will host Stevenson on Saturday in another big Commonwealth Conference game.
The Lions will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, and recognize departing team members DeLucas,
Chelsea Klein and Tourdot.
