Despite a strong second set, the Albright College volleyball team was swept by #25 Stevenson on Tuesday night.
The Mustangs, who are 10-0 and have still not lost a set in 2013, took a 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-13) decision.
Junior
Brandy Blimline had two block assists and four kills, while freshman
Caitlin Klotzbach totaled 13 digs. Senior
Christa Mantz also had 13 digs to go with four kills.
Blimline helped the Lions (2-6, 0-2) to the first point in each of the opening two games. The junior teamed with classmate
Kyrsten Stanford for a block on the match's first play.
Samantha Perillo had a pair of aces to give Stevenson a 7-2 advantage, and Mustang blocks soon made it 16-6 and then 20-6. Freshman
Maddy Greth answered with a kill, but the Mustangs went on for a 25-11 set victory.
The Lions led for much of the second set, before fading late. Blimline opened things with a kill, and Albright led 5-3 after a pair of Stevenson errors.
Jordan Gibson's diving dig eventually led to Mantz' solo block and a 6-5 Lion lead. Two impressive Klotzbach saves provided another Albright advantage at 7-6.
Stevenson took a 9-8 lead but Mantz tied it with a nice push kill. Stanford and Blimline then combined for a block that made it 11-10 Lions.
Stevenson's
Imani Hudson (13 kills) had a hard spike that put the Mustangs up 19-16 late in the game however, as the visitors fought off Albright's challenge.
The Mustangs came into the game with an eye-opening team hitting percentage of .321, and hit .402 against Albright. Hudson (.455),
Jessica Geiselman (.571) and
Jenna Campbell (.625) led the way.
