READING, Pa. -- Senior
Marisa Bartone led Albright with eight kills, but Penn State-Altoona won the battle of the Lions with a 3-0 victory in a non-conference match on Friday inside the Bollman Center.
Penn State-Altoona captured the match by a score of 25-20, 25-18, 25-22.
The first set was tied at 11-11, before Penn State-Altoona went on a 4-0 run to break the set open and lead to the opening set victory. The visitors outhit Albright with a 15-8 kill advantage.
Penn State-Altoona led the middle set 18-17 when it went on a 7-1 run to close it out and take a 2-0 lead. Albright was only able to muster six kills while Penn State-Altoona recorded 14.
Penn State-Altoona jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set before Albright would come storming back. A kill and a service ace by
Brandy Blimline jump started a 9-2 Albright run, which gave the Lions a 10-7 advantage.
Kills by
Nicole Vazquez and
Kellie Hill helped Albright push the lead to 16-10, but Penn State-Altoona would rally back. Kills by Amanda Hammer and Kristi Batzel sparked an 8-2 run, which knotted the set at 18-18.
Back-to-back kills by Emily Frye and Moira Corrigan gave Penn State-Altoona its first lead of the set at 20-18 and kills by Kaylin Dunn and Hammer closed out the set for Penn State-Altoona.
Albright drops to 7-15 on the season, while Penn-State Altoona improves to 9-11.
Bartone hit .250 for the match, and Blimline added seven kills,
Claudia Guise had 19 assists with nine digs, and
Caitlin Klotzbach had 11 digs.
Hammer led the visitors with 12 kills and hit .286 for the contest. Tori Shingler added 11 kills with three blocks and Batzel set up 44 assists. Emily Baker paced Penn State-Altoona with 14 digs and Frye added 10.
Albright will return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 14) when it visits Elizabethtown in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
