GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Freshman
Kellie Hill led all players with 12 kills as Albright College volleyball notched a 3-0 non-conference road win at Gwynedd-Mercy Thursday night.
The Lions (8-16) captured the match by scores of 25-21, 25-22, and 25-12. The Griffins (6-20) held a commanding .237 to .007 advantage in the second set, but Albright was able to use a five point run after trailing 15-13 to turn the set around and take the 2-0 lead.
Another freshman
Claudia Guise had a match high 25 assists, was perfect on five kill attempts and added eight digs. Sophomore Caitlin Klotzback made 30 digs, with 15 coming in the tightly contested first set, to lead all players in the match. Nine different players contributed with at least one assist.
Hill who had six kills in the first two sets, picked up six more in the third set with just a single error, as Albright hit .297 in the final set. Overall the Lions hit .160 while the Griffins hit .103.
Senior
Brandy Blimline was second on the team with eight kills and added six digs,
Nicole Vazquez chipped in with seven kills in only nine attempts hitting at a .357 clip.
The Lions held the edge in assists 35-22 and in digs 62-55, the Griffins recorded the only six blocks of the match.
Albright will return home on Wednesday night for its final home match of the season against Commonwealth Conference foe Lycoming inside the Bollman Center at 7 p.m. Before the match, the Lions will honor three seniors;
Marisa Bartone,
Jordan Gibson and Blimline on Senior Night.
