ANNVILLE, Pa. -- With MPR written on their arms, legs and backs in memory of Matt Rein who died tragically in a house fire in September, the Albright College women's swim team opened the 2014-15 season with a 106-87 victory over Lebanon Valley on Tuesday at the LVC Pool.
Liz Muller led the way for Albright as she posted victories in the 800 freestyle and the 200 IM. Muller finished first in the 800 freestyle in a time of 10:11.90 and captured the 200 IM in a time of 2:40.71.
Kaitlyn Huizing also turned in a strong performance in the Lions season opener by winning the 100 backstroke, swimming a leg on the victorious 200 medley relay team and finishing second in the 200 freestyle. She captured top honors in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:11.20, was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:26.11 and helped the relay team finish first in a time of 2:14.13.
Danielle Hassard,
Amanda Osterlind,
Julie McNeil and
Gwen Stefan also posted victories for Albright. Hassard, who also swam a leg on the 200 medley realy, captured the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:14.76. McNeil finished first in the 50 freestyle in a time of 29.26, while Stefan was first in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.01.
Adina Gaughran and
Lily Ritter each swam a leg on the Lions 200 medley relay team and Gaughran posted a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle in a time of 30.02, while Ritter finished third in the 200 IM in 2:52.02.
Allie Peters earned a second-place finish in the 800 freestyle in 10:32.39, while
Madeline Hudson placed second in the 200 IM in 2:47.60.
Melanie Roy also recorded a second-place finish for Albright in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:15.36.
Albright entered the last three events of the meet as an exhibition.
Lebanon Valley held a moment of silence for Rein before the start of the meet.
COMPLETE RESULTSAlbright will open the home portion of its 2014-15 season on Saturday (Oct. 25) when it hosts Lycoming at 2 p.m. in the Albright Natatorium.
