Kellie Hill notched a team-high nine kills and senior
Brandy Blimline added six kills, but it was not enough to lead the Albright College volleyball team past Lebanon Valley as the Dutchmen emerged with a 25-14, 25-18, 25-12 victory over the Lions in a Commonwealth Conference match in Sorrentino Gymnasium.
Hill also posted a .318 attack percentage as she had nine kills in 22 attempts with only two attack errors. She also added two digs and a block.
Blimline had six kills, six digs and two service aces, while
Claudia Guise,
Nicole Vazquez and
Cheyenne Robinett each had one kill for Albright.
Lebanon Valley, which improved to 17-4 overall and 3-1 in the Commonwealth, was led by Greta Weidemoyer who had 14 kills. Kacey Musselman added 35 assists, four kills and two digs.
Albright, which dropped to 7-14 overall and 1-4 in conference play, also received a team-high 15 digs from
Caitlin Klotzbach and 16 assists from Guise.
Lebanon Valley jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first set and led 12-6 before the Lions mounted a comeback. Two service aces by Blimline and two Lebanon Valley attack errors brought Albright to within 12-10.
The Dutchmen responded with an 8-2 run that pushed the lead to 20-12 and claimed the first set on a kill by Kayla Confer.
Lebanon Valley once again got off to fast start in the second set as the Dutchmen held a 13-4 lead before Albright climbed back into the set. A 5-2 run by the Lions trimmed the lead to 15-10, but Lebanon Valley stretched the margin to 20-11.
Two kills each by Hill and Blimline helped Albright cut the lead to 22-18, but Lebanon Valley closed out the set on a kill by Allie Quirk.
Three kills by Hill and a kill by Blimline helped Albright jump out to a 6-4 lead in the third set. Lebanon Valley, which hit .378 in the third set, slowly stretched out the lead and won the set and the match on an Albright attack error.
Albright returns to the Bollman Center on Friday (Oct. 10) where it will host Penn State-Altoona in a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m.
