LVC Bests Albright in Extra Innings, 3-2

Box Score

The Albright College baseball team dropped a tough extra innings decision, 3-2 in 10 innings vs. Lebanon Valley in the Lions' home opener.

A pitcher's duel saw both starters go the full nine. Albright's Jared Neiheiser (3 K's) had a no-decision while LVC's Michael Houseal earned the win after striking out nine batters in 9 IP. At the plate, Max Dundore was 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Lions.

Zach Smith singled in Tim Filer in the top of the 10th for the Dutchmen's winning run.

LVC second baseman Mike Puglisi helped thwart Albright threats in both the eighth and ninth innings. He made a fantastic diving catch on Zac Okonski's blooper in the eighth, and later chased down a Brandon Triantos liner with John Medvecky representing the potential walkoff run at third.

Phill Dohner and Devin Dellinger opened the game with singles for Leb Val. Jordan Higgins hit an RBI double as the Dutchmen took a quick 2-0 lead.

Evan High and Dundore singled for Albright in the second inning, but LVC turned a 5-4-3 double play to get out of the frame unscathed.

Albright pulled one back in the bottom of the third as Collin Hecker tripled in Nate Peiffer. It could have been more, as freshman Micah Storms drove a hard liner that unfortunately went right at the centerfielder.

The Lions' defense helped keep it a 2-1 ballgame. Eric Leymiester reached on an error in the fifth and the Dutchmen tried to pinch run, but Zachary Kiebler threw the runner out at second by a wide margin. After LVC opened the sixth and seventh innings with singles, the Lions turned double plays to get both leadoff men.

Dundore and Medvecky both were in scoring position with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh. Joe Pechulis pinch hit and knocked Dundore home to tie the game, but it was all the Lions could manage.
