Box ScoreFollowing a series sweep of Arcadia University, the Albright Lions baseball team fell to Neumann University today by a score of 13-5.
After two scoreless innings, the Knights jumped on the board first, scoring seven runs in the third inning off of pitchers Will Nicoletto and Will Klinger.
The Lions chipped away at the Neumann lead, answering back with three runs in the bottom of the third. Senior
Nate Peiffer started the inning with a single and later scored on a
Max Dundore double. Junior
Zac Okonski doubled in
Dylan Boll, who had previously singled, making the score 7-3.
In the top of the fourth, Neumann kept stride by adding to their lead, knocking in three runs off of four hits to increase their advantage to 10-3.
Faced with a large deficit, Albright failed to generate enough offensive firepower to establish a comeback. Their remaining two runs in the ballgame came as
Trey Hook reached on an error by the shortstop, scoring
John Medvecky, and
Joe Pechulis singled to score
Gabe Santone, who previously doubled.
Neumann's bats stayed hot throughout the game as they produced two more runs in the top of the eighth, building an insurmountable lead.
Nate Pieffer and
Dylan Boll each finished two for three on the day, while designated hitter
Joe Pechulis cashed in on two hits and an RBI.
Today's defeat drops the Lions to 7-8, while Neumann improves to 9-11. Albright's next chance at victory comes tomorrow as the Lions take on the Widener Pride at 4 p.m. on Kelchner Field, in the first of a three-game conference series.
