Pride Ride Bats to Win in Commonwealth Baseball Matchup

Box Score

Widener totaled 19 hits as the Albright College baseball team dropped a 10-3 Commonwealth Conference game on Friday at Kelchner Field.

Junior Evan High was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Senior Zach Graham pitched 2.2 shutout innings of relief after starter Jared Neiheiser was chased by four unearned runs in the fourth inning.

Widener did most of its damage in that fourth inning, totaling six total runs with three Albright errors committed in the stanza. A Michael Elfreth single followed by a fielding error plated two runs and gave the Pride the lead for good.

In the bottom of the second, High's bunt single advanced Max Dundore and Zac Okonski to load the bases with nobody out. Okonski scored when John Medvecky hit into a double play, but Albright could only manage a 1-0 lead.

Dundore reached on a two-out error in the bottom of the fourth and scored on High's triple to the right-center gap.

Lion senior Collin Hecker made a diving catch to rob Edward Speakman in the top of the fifth, and was unlucky to fly out to the wall in the bottom half of the frame. Gabe Santone singled in Brandon Triantos to cut the deficit to 6-3, but Widener escaped a bases loaded jam in the inning.

The Pride opened things up with three runs in the top of the sixth.

The top eight batters in Widener's lineup had multi-hit games-  Elfreth (2), Bob Barnett (2), Michael Riverso (3), Matt Scherer (2), Nick Enos (2), Speakman (2), Justin Healey (3) and Sam Christie (2).

Albright falls to 7-9, 5-6 and will play two crucial Commonwealth doubleheaders this weekend- tomorrow at Widener and Sunday at home vs. Elizabethtown.
