A four-run fourth carried Albright to a 7-5 victory in the opener. With the Lions trailing 3-2 freshman
Micah Storms singled in
Zac Okonski and
Collin Hecker, following by a
Nate Peiffer triple to clear Storms and
Julian Cimino.
After Elizabethtown made it a one-run game with two in the fifth, Albright added a key insurance run in the bottom of the frame as
Evan High's sacrifice fly brought Okonski home.
Trey Eberly earned the save in the top of the seventh. After an error extended the game and a single brought
Frank Ragozzino to third,
Alex Holbert (representing the go-ahead run) flew out to deep centerfield.
Okonski was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in game one, with Peiffer going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Storms was 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
Freshman
Mat Costa earned the win, allowing one earned run over 2.1 innings pitched. Fellow rookie
Trevor Mastria started and struck out four while allowing two earned in 3.2 IP.
After Mastria put down the Blue Jays 1-2-3 in the top of the first, Albright scored twice in the bottom half. Peiffer and
John Medvecky led off with hits; Peiffer scored on a double play groundout, and two Etown errors allowed
Gabe Santone to score.
Sean Jones' leadoff double led to a visitor run in the top of the second. Elizabethtown tied it on a sacrifice fly in the third, and took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth on Ragozzino's solo home run.
The Blue Jays jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap. After Jones doubled in
Kyle Gable with two out in the first, Etown added five runs (four unearned) in the second on four hits and three errors to go ahead 6-0.
Gable made a diving catch to rob High in the bottom of the second. The Lions did get on the board with two in the third inning, on Santone's single to score Storms and Peiffer. Doubles from
Tyler Weary and Gable allowed the Blue Jays to recoup the two runs in the top of the fourth.
Hecker, Storms and Peiffer all draw walks to load the bases with two out in the bottom of the fourth. Medvecky gave it a decent ride but his fly was caught at the warning track.
Santone was 1-for-2 with two RBIs in the loss. Peiffer was 1-for-3 and scored once.
Albright is 8-12, 6-9, and will host Ursinus tomorrow at 4 p.m.
