BETHLEHEM, Pa. --
Matthew Muoio and
Evan Cuff each recorded singles victories for the Albright men's tennis team, but the Lions dropped a 6-3 decision to Moravian to open the 2014-15 season on Wednesday.
Muoio, playing No. 2 singles, defeated John Wylie 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) in a thrilling match which required a tiebreaker to decide a winner. Cuff defeated Giovanni Lombardi 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4 singles for the Lions.
Albright's other victory came in doubles where Muoio and Ian Goodwillie teamed to defeat Matt Tuorto and Wyle 9-8 (7-4) at No. 1 doubles.
Goodwillie dropped a heartbreaking match to Tuorto at No. 1 singles. Goodwillie won the first set 6-2 only to see Tuorto bounce back to win the second set 6-3, which set up a tiebreaker to decide the outcome. Tuorto prevailed 10-7 in the super set to claim the victory.
The Lions showed much improvement in their opening match of the season as they were swept 9-0 last year by the Greyhounds.
