READING, Pa. -- The Albright football team will seek to return to its winning ways on Saturday (Sept. 20) when it visits Widener in a Middle Atlantic Conference game at 1 p.m. in Quick Stadium.
The Lions had their five-game winning streak snapped last week in a 26-0 loss to Lycoming in Shirk Stadium. Albright had won the last four games of the 2013 season and won its 2014 opener at Kean prior to the loss to Lycoming.
Widener enters the game ranked 24th in the D3football.com Top-25 poll, which marks the second consecutive week the Lions will face a ranked team. Lycoming was ranked 23rd in the same poll last week.
Albright (1-1) will attempt to get its offense untracked against a stingy Widener defense. The Lions are averaging 172.5 yards of total offense per game through two games, while Widener is surrendering 197.5 yard per game and has given up only one touchdown this season.
Defensively, senior
Joe Magosin leads the Lions with 17 tackles and has three interceptions on the season.
Colton Ryan and
Hunter Riggs each have 16 tackles on the year and Steve Barraso has 15 tackles and one tackle for loss.
Last year Albright defeated the Pride 33-19 in Shirk Stadium as
Daniel Sobolewski had four field goals and the Lion defense accumulated 10 sacks on the afternoon. The Lions also blocked a punt and returned it 36 yards for a touchdown to seal the victory. Overall, Albright has won four of the last six meetings with Widener.
