Magosin Named MAC Defensive Player of the Week

ANNVILLE, Pa. -- Albright College senior Joe Magosin has been named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Defensive Player of the Week the conference office announced on Monday following his performance against Kean University.

Magosin (Egg Harbor Township, Pa.) was instrumental in helping the Lions post a 25-14 victory over the Cougars in the season opener for both teams on Friday.

Magosin had a brilliant evening highlighted by his 27-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter. It was one of three interceptions recorded by Magosin, which ranks second in school history behind only the school record of four shared by Jack Sudol and Phil Tortoreti. It also marked the most interceptions in a single game since Matt Christ picked off three passes in 2007.

Magosin was also responsible for the other Kean turnover on the evening as he forced a fumble and then recovered the fumble, which led to an Albright touchdown on its next drive.

He helped seal the victory for the Lions as his interception and 50-yard return late in the fourth quarter set up a field goal by Daniel Sobolewski that put the game out of reach.

In all, Magosin totaled a team-high 10 tackles, picked off three passes, had a pass break up, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble and had 1.5 tackles for loss.

Albright returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 13) when it hosts Lycoming at 1 p.m. in Shirk Stadium.
