READING, Pa. - Sophomore Ken Richardson set the Albright Natatorium record in 200-yard breaststroke snapping a mark that had stood since 2001, as the Albright men's swimming team posted a 149-112 Middle Atlantic Conference victory over visiting Hood College Saturday afternoon.

Richardson won three individual events and a relay event during his record-setting performance. Richardson time of 2:14.73 betters the old record time of 2:16.82 set by Matt Hoke of Widener. Richardson also holds the school record in the event of 2:10.95 that he set during the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship meet in February.

The Lions Improved to 5-2-1 overall, 5-1-1 in the MAC, while the Blazers drop to 4-5 overall, with a 3-4 record in the MAC.

The meet opened with Matt Runtas touching the wall to narrowly defeat Dillon Marier of Hood in the freestyle leg of the 400-yard medley relay. The quartet of Runtas, Rick Sutton, Richardson and Alex Bauer finished in 3:38.29 only .31 seconds off the Natatorium record, and .30 ahead of Hood.

Richardson was also victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke touching the wall in 1:00.26, and the 200-yard Individual Medley in 2:02.26. Tyler Huizing took third place in 2:11.87.

Bauer out-touched Runtas to earn the win in the 50-yard freestyle. Bauer finished in 21.82 and Runtas touched in 21.98. Runtas gained a measure of revenge with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 49.81 with Bauer taking third place in 50.45.

Runtas added another runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly as Alex Bodine reached the wall first in 54.68, whileRuntas was just .03 seconds behind in 54.71. Mitch Cain was third in 55.72 and Drew Leahy fourth in 56.71.

Cain led an Albright sweep in the 200-yard butterfly finishing in 2:07.23, Leahy was second in 2:12.92 and Parker Vivian third in 2:17.91.

Sutton took second in the 1000 and 500 yard freestyle events. Huizing was second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 154.60, while Sean Yuschovitz raced to the runner-up spot in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.46 and in 200-yard backstroke in 2:14.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Bauer, Sutton, Cain and Leahy finished second in 3:22.62, just .19 seconds behind Hood, with Marier touching before Cain.

The Lions return to action next Saturday (Jan. 10)when they host Misericordia at 1 p.m.
