READING, Pa. - The Albright women's swimming team opened the new year with a 143-107 Middle Atlantic Conference victory over Hood on Saturday afternoon inside the Albright Natatorium.

The Lions (6-2, 6-1 MAC) secured victory in all but one event, before the meet turned to exhibition scoring. Ashley Griffin and Lauren Fogarty each had multiple wins for the Blazers (6-3, 4-3 MAC).

Lauren Cormier swam to victories in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. Cormier captured the 100 in 1:13.65, Lily Ritter took second place in 1:17.3. In the 200, Cormier touched in 2:45.21 for the win, with Ritter the runner-up in 2:48.13.

Codi Herr saw action for the first time this season. She raced to the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.26, as well as the 200-yard butterfly in 2:17.31. Herr also swam the 100-yard butterfly as an exhibition event, finishing in 59.65.

Gwen Stefan's time of 5:30.25 was good enough for the win in the 500-yard freestyle, Stefan also grabbed the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.97, and was the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 55.89.

Kaitlyn Huizing dominated the backstroke events with two victories. Huizing finished in 1:04.51 in capturing the 100 with Julie McNeil right behind in second place touching the wall in 1:05.28. In 200-yard backstroke Huizing won in a time of 2:21.46 and McNeil was third in 2:24.80.

Amanda Osterlind was the winner of the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:13.92 and swam the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:18.52 as an exhibition.

The team of Huizing, Cormier, McNeil, and Stefan opened the meet with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 4:19.79. Herr, Hand, Muller and Osterlind swam the 400-yard freestyle as an exhibition and finished in 3:53.98.

The Lions return to action next Saturday (Jan. 10) when they host Misericordia at 1 p.m.
