READING, Pa. -- Sophomore
Maddy Greth recorded a career-high 16 kills leading the Albright volleyball team to a convincing 25-18, 25-18, 25-7 victory over Penn State Mont Alto on Friday night in the Bollman Center.
Greth posted 16 kills in 24 attempts and had only three errors to finish with a .542 attack percentage. Her 16 kills topped her previous career high of 14 set during the 2013 season.
The Lions hit a season-best .338 for the match, while limiting Penn State Mont Alto to an .000 attack percentage.
Sophomore
Kellie Hill added nine kills and a .571 attack percentage, while freshman
Katie Schmerse had four kills, three digs and two blocks.
Sophomore setter
Claudia Guise recorded four kills, an .800 attack percentage, 29 assists, two digs, a block and a service ace.
Alyssa Dalida led Penn State Mont Alto with eight kills, while Kelsey Wetzel finished the match with seven kills.
Albright snapped its two-match losing streak and improved to 3-3 overall on the season, while Penn State Mont Alto dropped to 1-1 on the year.
Behind the serving of
Sarah Clark, Albright raced out to an 8-3 lead in the opening set behind a pair of service aces from Clark.
Penn State Mont Alto rallied to trim the Albright lead to 12-10 on an Albright hitting error. After a kill by Wetzel cut the Lions lead to 15-13, Albright responded with back-to-back kills by Hill and Greth to up the margin to 17-13.
After a service ace by
Victoria Wainwright increased the Albright lead to 21-15, two Lion hitting errors brought Penn State Mont Alto to within 21-17. But a kill by Greth and a service ace by
Patricia Horgan wrapped up the first set for the Lions by a score of 25-18.
Albright jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the second set only to see Penn State Mont Alto rally to tie the score at 14-14.
Three kills by Greth helped Albright extend the lead to 18-15 and the Lions closed out the set on a 6-1 run to capture a 25-18 victory. Guise recorded a service ace on the final point of the set.
The third set was all Albright as the Lions coasted to the 25-7 victory to clinch the set, and the match. Greth was outstanding in the final set as she had five kills, while Hill added three kills in the decisive set.
Albright returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 15) when it hosts Stevenson in a MAC Commonwealth match beginning at 7 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
