GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa- The Albright women's volleyball team snapped its losing streak with a 3-0 road win over Gwynedd Mercy University Tuesday night.
The Lions (3-11, 0-3 MACC) pounced on 12 Gwynedd Mercy mistakes and timely hitting on their way to a 25-10 first set win.
Senior
Maddy Greth led the team with four kills as Albright posted an impressive .333 attack percentage. Albright stifled the Griffins (8-9, 3-2 CSAC) early in set one, jumping out to a commanding 13-1 lead. Gwynedd Mercy attempted to battle back but the lead was too much to overcome. Victoria Wainwright handed Albright a 15-point lead before a Greth kill sealed a set win.
Albright's sizzling hitting was granted a reprieve as the Griffins' struggles continued into the second set.
Cheyenne Robinett led the Lions with three kills but majority of Albright's came from its opponent's errors. Gwynedd Mercy committed a whopping 16 errors to help the Lions to a 25-18 win.
The final set was a back-and-forth battle with both teams trading points before the Griffins ran off five straight points to take a 9-8 lead, its first of the match. The Lions fought scored 12 of the next 17 points to take a 20-13 lead. Gwynedd Mercy pulled within three before losing the final set 25-21 on yet another error.
Guise finished the night with a double-double featuring 23 assists and 11 digs. Both Greth and Robinett led the team with seven kills while
Becca Davis with a team-best 12 digs.
Shaniyah Taylor and Wainwright recorded a pair of blocks.
Albright's season continues tomorrow night, Wednesday the 5th, when the Lions return home to the Bollman Center to host Lycoming College in conference play.
