READING, Pa. –
Mariah Cullen and
Tori Meyer each recorded six points leading the Albright women's lacrosse team to a dominating 20-5 victory over Eastern in the Lions season opener on Wednesday at Shirk Stadium.
Cullen had four goals and added two assists, while Meyer added a career-high five goals and also finished with an assist to lead the Lions to the victory.
Erin Farrell finished with five points with three goals and two assists and
Amanda Smith scored three goals and had an assist for four points.
Danielle Carey and
Jacqui Montague each added two goals, while
Sophie Bass scored her first collegiate goal in the win.
Albright dominated from the outset as the Lions scored on their first seven possessions of the game to take a 7-0 lead at the 23:43 mark of the first period.
Emily Hutson made four saves in net for Albright to pick up the victory.
Meyer got Albright on the scoreboard just 1:09 into the game when she picked up a ground ball and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Montague extended the Lions lead to 2-0 just 1:28 later when she beat Cortney Andes for the goal.
Meyer then scored back-to-back goals to up the Albright lead to 4-0 at the 25:46 mark of the opening period.
Cullen then scored her first goal of the game off an assist from Farrell to extend the Lions lead to 5-0.
Smith found the back of the cage at the 23:58 mark to increase the margin to 6-0 and Farrell capped the outburst with a goal at the 23:43 mark to push the lead to 7-0.
After Eastern cut the lead to 7-3, Albright closed the half on a 7-1 run to take a 14-4 lead into the intermission.
Albright outscored Eastern 5-1 in the second half to close out the 20-5 win.
Albright returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 27) when it hosts Ursinus at 12 p.m. in Shirk Stadium.
