UTICA, N.Y. -- Junior
Jacqui Montague scored three goals, but Albright fell to Utica 9-4 in the Lions final game in the American Heart Association Tournament at Charles Gaetano Stadium on Sunday.
Utica, which improved to 1-1 on the season, began the game with a 6-1 run and then held off the Lions to register its first win of the season.
Albright, which fell to 3-2 on the season, got to within three goals in the second half but could get not get closer than that for the remainder of the contest.
Tori Meyer added a goal for the Lions, while
Danielle Carey and
Erin Farrell each finished with two assists.
Utica was led by Rebecca Plunkett who had four goals, while Courtney Wheeler added two goals.
Utica took advantage of its free-position opportunities as the Pioneers scored four goals, while Albright misfired on all six of its attempts.
Utica raced out to a 3-0 lead as Plunkett, Colleen Dowling and Mary Stuhlman each scored goals for the Pioneers.
Meyer got Albright on the board with a goal off a pass from Farrell to trim the lead to 3-1 with 12:35 to play in the opening period.
The Pioneers responded with a 3-0 run to up the lead to 6-1 with 1:30 to play in the first, but Montague scored with 42 seconds left in the period to cut the Utica lead to 6-2 at the intermission.
The Lions opened the second period with a goal from Montague to bring Albright to within 6-3 with 27:03 to play in the game.
Plunkett scored back-to-back goals and Wheeler added a goal to up the Pioneers lead to 9-3 with 13:22 to play in the period.
Montague tallied her third goal of the contest with 6:17 remaining to trim the lead to 9-4 to close out the scoring.
Albright will return to action on March 15 when it faces Virginia Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
