READING, Pa. -- Senior
Erin Farrell tied her career high with seven goals leading the Albright women's lacrosse team to a 20-11 MAC Commonwealth victory over Alvernia on Wednesday at Shirk Stadium.
The seven goals scored by Farrell tied her career high of seven against Elizabethtown during the 2013 season. The seven goals also stands as the second-highest total in school history.
Albright, which defeated Alvernia for the third straight time, also received five goals from
Amanda Smith and four goals from
Mariah Cullen.
Sophie Bass had two goals and
Danielle Carey and
Corinne Donohue also scored for the Lions.
Carey led the Lions with three assists to finish with four points, while Cullen added two assists. Bass,
Jacqui Montague and Smith also had helpers for the Lions.
Emily Hutson earned the win in goal for Albright as she made four saves in 34:13.
Hayley Joyce worked the final 25:47 and made six saves for Albright.
With her six points, Cullen surpassed the 100-point plateau in her career becoming just the fourth player in school history to reach that level. She currently has 102 career points.
Alvernia, which dropped to 4-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play, was led by Julie Sutton who scored three goals. Abby McCarthy and Angel Adams had two goals each for the Crusaders.
Albright, which improved to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play, used a 7-0 run to close the first half to pull away from Alvernia.
The Lions led 6-5 before Farrell started the run with a free-position goal to up the lead to 7-5 at the 8:18 mark of the first.
Smith scored an unassisted goal and Cullen scored off a feed from Carey to increase the lead to 9-5 with 3:35 to play in the opening half.
Albright then scored four goals in the final 1:46 of the period to take a 13-5 lead into the intermission.
The Lions opened the second half with goals by Cullen, Donohue and Smith to up the lead to 16-5 with 25:55 left in the game.
Albright returns to action on Saturday (April 16) when it visits Stevenson for a MAC Commonwealth game at 1 p.m.
