READING, Pa. -- Senior
Amanda Smith scored a free-position goal with 14.1 seconds to play in regulation lifting Albright to a thrilling 14-13 MAC Commonwealth victory over Widener on Wednesday at Shirk Stadium.
The goal by Smith ended a game that featured 10 ties, six lead changes and was tightly contested throughout as neither team led by more than two goals.
Albright, which improved to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play, found itself trailing 12-10 with 9:40 to play in the second period.
Smith began the comeback for the Lions as she tallied an unassisted goal at the 8:28 mark of the second to cut the lead to 12-11.
Sophie Bass tied the game at 12-12 when she scored off of a feed from
Danielle Carey at the 7:10 mark of the second period.
Erin Farrell put the Lions in front with an unassisted goal with just 1:20 to play, but Brooke Clasing tied the game for the Pride with a goal with 24 seconds remaining in regulation.
On the ensuing draw control, Smith won a battle at midfield and raced toward the Widener goal but was fouled on the play. She then ripped a free-position goal past Grace Morales to secure the win for the Lions.
Farrell led the Lions with five goals, while Smith finished with three goals. Carey and
Mariah Cullen each had a pair of goals and Bass and Montague tallied one goal apiece.
Carey recorded three assists to finish with five points, while
Tori Meyer also had an assist.
Hayley Joyce picked up her first win of the season in goal for Albright as she relieved
Emily Hutson to start the second period and finished with three saves.
Widener, which dropped to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play, was led by Clasing who had four goals. Melissa Sailey added three goals and Kelly Lynch and Angie Baricko finished with two goals each.
Albright will play its final regular season home game of the season on Saturday (April 23) when it hosts Lycoming at 1 p.m. in Shirk Stadium.
