READING, Pa. -- Senior
Maddy Greth notched 12 kills and Albright opened the 2016 season in convincing fashion as the Lions defeated Cairn 25-10, 25-9, 25-15 on Thursday in the Bollman Center.
Led by Greth and
Claudia Guise, Albright posted a sizzling .382 attack percentage for the match in winning its season opener. Guise topped the Lions with a .600 attack percentage, while Greth finished with a .476 attack percentage.
Victoria Wainwright (.455) and
Shaniyah Taylor (.429) also finished with attack percentages above .400.
The Lions featured a balanced offensive attack led by Greth. Wainwright had seven kills, while Guise and
Katie Schmerse each finished with four kills. Taylor added three kills and
Morgan Puller also recorded a kill for Albright.
The Lions rode their hitting attack and their service game to the win. Albright finished with 17 service aces for the match led by Puller who recorded a team-leading six aces. Schmerse had three aces and Taylor, Guise and Greth all had two service aces.
Michaela Curran, who was the starting libero, finished with eight digs to lead Albright. Greth had six digs and Guise also had four digs.
Guise directed the high-octane Albright offensive attack as she had 29 assists for the match.
Whitney Seidel led Cairn with six kills, while Brie Norton finished with three kills.
Albright returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 3) when it visits Penn State-Harrisburg for a non-conference match beginning at 12 p.m.
