HARRISBURG, Pa – Albright traveled to Penn State Harrisburg for a tri-match with the host Lions and Cedar Crest College Saturday afternoon. Albright swept Cedar Crest 3-0 in the opener before dropping a hard-fought 3-2 contest to Penn State Harrisburg, running its record to 2-1 in 2016.
Albright had little trouble with Cedar Crest in the first match of the day, winning 25-10, 25-14, and 25-20. Junior
Kellie Hill led a balanced Lion attack with nine kills in the match on a strong .376 attack percentage, while senior Maddie Greth added four kills and four Lions chipped in with three kills each. Greth and freshman
Morgan Puller led the Lions with three service aces each, while defensively sophomore
Victoria Wainwright had a pair of solo blocks and freshman
Michaela Curran posted a team-high 14 digs.
Nicole Hill had eight kills to lead Cedar Crest, followed by Maggie Orlock, Breanna Fields, and Molley Schnaubelt with five kills each.
In the second match of the day, Albright got off to a great start, winning game one 25-22 and game two 25-23 to take a 2-0 lead. Penn State Harrisburg rallied in to win game three 25-21, then took game four 25-19 to set up the decisive fifth game. In tight game, the host Lions pulled out a 17-15 win to capture the match 3-2.
Hill again led the Albright attack, finishing the match with a team-best 10 kills and a .276 attack percentage. Greth and sophomore
Katie Schmerse each had eight kills, followed by Wainwright and freshman
Shaniyah Taylor with four each. Junior setter
Claudia Guise did a nice job of distributing the ball as she finished with 28 assists and also added a team-leading five service aces. Schmerse posted a team-best 14 digs for Albright and Wainwright again led the Lions in blocks with three solo and one assisted block.
Brittany Wolf paced Penn State Harrisburg with 17 kills and added two service aces while Rachale Hair added 14 kills.
Albright returns to action on September 13 when Arcadia travels to the Bollman Center to open Commonwealth Conference play. Match time is scheduled for 7:00.
