READING, Pa – The Albright women's volleyball dropped its Commonwealth Conference opener 3-0 to Arcadia Tuesday night in the Bollman Center. The Lions are now 2-2 overall in 2016 and 0-1 in conference play, while the Knights improve to 3-4, 1-1.
Game one was tight until the final points, when Arcadia broke a 16-16 tie and finished the game on a 9-1 run to win the opener 25-17. Game two saw the Lions fight back from an early deficit to get within a point at 13-12, but Arcadia used a 5-0 run to pull away and take game two by an identical 25-17 score.
Albright got off to a strong start in game three, taking an early lead and extending it to 13-9 after a kill by sophomore outside hitter
Katie Schmerse. Arcadia answered, however, with a 5-0 run to take a 14-13 lead. The teams went back and forth from there, with neither club able to take more than a two-point lead. Albright looked to force a fourth game when junior
Claudia Guise's kill gave the Lions a 23-21 lead, but Arcadia scored the final four points of the game to grab a 25-23 win and take the match 3-0.
Senior Maddie Greth led Albright with 11 kills in the match, while Guise added 13 assists and sophomore libero
Becca Davis had a team best seven digs.
Albright returns to action on Friday. The Lions will host Penn State Altoona in a non-conference match at 7:30 in the Bollman Center.
