York, Pa.- The Albright women's volleyball team lost its first two games at the York College Invitational Friday evening. King's College (Pa) swept the Lions in their first match of the day while SUNY Canton defeated Albright 3-1.
Albright battled the Monarchs, but ultimately fell 25-18, 25-8, 25-17. In the team's opening game, outside hitter
Claudia Guise led the team offensively. The Lions' setter finished with 21 assists and three aces. Guise also tied sophomores
Victoria Wainwright and Kaylan Haan with one block. Senior outside hitter
Maddy Greth had nine kills and 11 digs while sophomore libero
Becca Davis recorded 16 digs.
The Lions wrapped up day one in another clash, this time with the Kangaroos. Albright dropped the first two sets 25-17 and 25-16 before stealing set three from SUNY Canton 25-23. The Lions refused to go down easy to the Kangaroos in set four, but SUNY Canton left with a 26-24 and match victory. At the net, Greth tallied a match-high 17 kills, three aces, and one block. Freshman outside hitter
Morgan Puller recorded six kills and 11 digs. Defensively, Wainwright recorded a match-best three blocks and Davis had 23 digs.
The Lions look to bounce back tomorrow morning on day two of the York Invitational when they face off with the Devils of Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham Campus at 9:30 a.m. and the tournament hosts, the Spartans of York College of Pennsylvania, at 11:30 a.m.
