No. 25 Stevenson Defeats Volleyball

READING, Pa. – The Albright women's volleyball team held No. 25 Stevenson to just a .178 hitting percentage, but the Mustangs managed to sweep the Lions, 3-0, in MAC Commonwealth action on Tuesday night at Bollman Center. Stevenson won the match 25-18, 25-13 and 25-21. Kellie Hill led the Lions with eight kills.

Albright held close in the first set after Stevenson jumped out to a 13-5 lead. Albright had the lead cut to three at 18-15 thanks to a 3-0 run that included one of Hill's kills. Stevenson scored seven of the last 10 points, though, to take the first set.

In the second set, Stevenson jumped out to a huge lead and cruised with a .333 hitting percentage in the set. The Mustangs held Albright to -.174 hitting in the second set, forcing eight Albright errors to just four kills for the Lions.

In the third set, Albright used three straight points to tie the score at 11 apiece. The Lions never again could tie the score, but Liz Bacovin scored a point to make it 21-19 Stevenson. Hill added another kill later in the set and Paige Westra put down an ace to make it 24-21, but Stevenson scored the final point to complete the sweep.

Westra had four kills, and Bacovin finished with three kills. Claudia Guise had 13 assists and nine digs.

Albright returns to action on Thursday at home against Penn State Berks. It's the team's annual Dig Pink game to promote breast cancer awareness. The team will hold a gift basket raffle to help raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The match begins at 6 p.m.
