GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Albright women's volleyball team opened its conference slate on Tuesday night at Arcadia, but the Lions fells to the Knights in straight sets. Arcadia won the match 25-10, 25-18 and 25-19.
Claudia Guise led the Lions with a pair of kills in the first set, and
Shaniyah Taylor had an ace later in the game. Arcadia jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first, and the Knights finished the first on a 6-0 run.
Taylor's kill in the second set cut the Arcadia lead to 7-6, but the Knights followed that point with a 6-1 run to put them ahead, 13-7. Albright responded with kills from
Paige Westra,
Kellie Hill and
Bryana Chambers to keep the Knights within striking distance in the middle of the set.
Hill's kill had the Arcadia lead at 17-11, but Arcadia (5-1, 2-0) scored seven of the next 10 points to give it game point. The Lions scored four straight points as they tried to mount a comeback thanks to two kills from Chambers and another by Westra. The Knights finished the set, however, on the next point on an attack error.
In the third set, Albright had the score tied at 5-5, but Arcadia rattled off the next five points. Albright fought back, though, moving the score from 13-7 Arcadia to 15-14. Hill had a kill and Westra added an ace to help the Lions get back into the set.
Liz Bacovin and Chambers each had a kill in the later part of the set to keep the score to within four points, but the Knights scored the last two points to complete the three-set victory.
Hill led the team with five kills while Guise and Chambers each had four. Guise had 11 assists, and Westra led the team with eight digs.
Kaylyn Haan had seven digs.
Albright (1-6, 0-1) returns home to face Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday at 7 p.m.
