READING, Pa. – The Albright men's swimming team celebrated its senior day by registering a 144-112 dual meet win over Elizabethtown on Saturday afternoon to conclude its 2017-18 home schedule.
Eight different Lion swimmers earned individual wins on the day and one Albright relay team topped the podium as well. Sophomores
Teag Culver,
Will Griffith and
Maliq Williams all tallied wins on the day, while juniors
Jay Deschamps and
Conor Hassard also posted wins against the Blue Jays. Freshman,
Corey Hausler,
Harrison Hunsberger, and
Bryce Schaffer rounded out the Albright individual wins on the day.
Culver started off the individual events with a win in the 1650 freestyle as he posted a time of 16:51.21, which was a new Albright Natatorium pool record currently good for second best in the conference this season. Hausler then followed in the 100-yard breaststroke with a winning time of 1:03.71 just before Hassard registered a win in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.33. Deschamps earned his win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.38 and Hunsberger followed by tallying a win in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 50.05. After winning two weekly swimmer awards this past week, Schaffer added to his individual win total this season by posting a time of 2:00.73 in the 200-yard backstroke. Griffith took first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.21 just before Williams rounded out the individual wins for the Lions with a victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.78
Albright earned another event win on the day in the 200 yard medley relay when the team of Schaffer, Deschamps, Hunsberger, and senior
Tim Resch posted a time of 1:41.14, while the 800 yard freestyle relay team of Culver, Hunsberger, Griffith, and freshman
Chris Laite set a new pool record with a time of 7:18.18
The Lions will return to the pool in two weeks on Saturday, February 3
rd, when they will participate in a tri-meet against Messiah and Misericordia that will be hosted by Messiah at 1 p.m.
