GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Albright women's soccer team saw their season snapped by #11 Messiah on Thursday as they were served six unanswered goals in the MAC Commonwealth semifinal round.
The Lions close out the 2021 season 10-8-2 overall and 4-4 in regular season conference play. Meanwhile, the Falcons improve to 15-2-1 overall and advance to the MAC Commonwealth finals where they will host the No. 3 seed York on Saturday.
Messiah placed early pressure on Albright's back line, getting a shot off in just the first minute of play that soared wide left. The Falcons got their next four shots on goal, to which first-year goalkeeper
McKenna LeVan stopped them all. Messiah finally broke through with a goal in the 19
th minute to take the 1-0 lead. The Falcons were able to find the back of the net once more in the 42
nd minute to close out the first half with a two-goal lead over the Lions.
The Falcons kept their momentum in the second half, scoring within the first two minutes after the break to go up three over the Lions. Messiah found the back of the net a fourth time in the 53
rd minute, bringing their lead to 4-0. Two more Messiah goals in the 62
nd and 70
th minutes would solidify the Falcons dominant 6-0 victory over Albright to send them into the conference finals.
Albright failed to get a shot off in the match, while Messiah managed to fire off 32 and tally 19 on goal. LeVan receives the loss for the Lions with eight saves in 70 minutes of action on the evening. Junior
Emily Sellers added five saves in the final 20 minutes of play. Senior goalkeeper Lydia Watkins earns the win for the Falcons without needing a single save in 45 minutes of action.
