Baseball to Face Hood in Commonwealth Tournament Opener

READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions baseball team will travel to face Hood in the 2021 MAC Commonwealth play-in game at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27th.
 
Tickets: Hood baseball plays its home games at the Frederick Community College Baseball Field. Per Frederick Community College policies, spectators are not permitted at this time.
 
Live Coverage: The Hood Athletic Communications office will provide live video and live stats for the game. Live updates will also be available throughout the game on the official Twitter feed for Albright athletics (@AlbrightLions).
 
MAC Commonwealth Tournament: Albright is the No. 9 seed in the tournament and faces the No. 8 seed Hood for a single nine-inning contest. No. 1 seed York will host the winner of this game on Saturday, May 1st to being a three game series. The winners of the quarterfinal matchups over the weekend will advance to play in a best of three semifinal round from May 8-9 before moving on to the championship round on May 15-16. Each round will be a three-game series with the higher-seeded team hosting a doubleheader on the first day and the lower-seeded team hosting the 'if necessary' game on the next day. However, the higher-seeded team will be the "home team" in all three contests. All three games of each series will be nine innings.
 
Records: Albright enters the tournament with a 2-16 overall record and a 2-14 record in MAC Commonwealth play. The Lions enter the tournament after dropping all four games to Alvernia over the past weekend. Meanwhile, the Blazers finished the regular season with a 9-19 overall record, and 7-15 mark in conference play. Hood closed out the regular season by splitting a four-game series with Widener, with each team winning two games on their respective home fields.
 
Scouting the Lions: Albright ranks seventh in the conference with a .255 team batting average. Junior first baseman Josh Jacavage leads the Lions with a .352 batting average and with 11 runs driven in. Jacavage is tied for the team lead with two home runs alongside senior outfielder Brandon Daubert. Daubert is tied for the team lead with 20 hits and leads the team with five doubles. Junior third baseman Nick Sklenarik leads the team with 11 runs scored and is tied for second on the team with seven runs batted in. Senior shortstop Jimmie Gentry is currently batting .317 and is tied for third on the team with 19 total hits. Senior pitcher Will Tokarski leads the team, and ranks 11th in the conference with 28 strikeouts.
 
Lions in the Playoffs: Albright is making its first appearance in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament since the 2009 season. The Lions went 1-2 in the 2009 tournament after splitting with former member Elizabethtown, and losing one game to Widener.
 
Scouting the Blazers: Hood ranks eighth in the conference with a .239 batting average. First-year infielder Stephen Sommer is having a breakout season in his first year on the team as he leads the team with a .357 batting average and eight doubles. Sommer ranks second on the team with nine runs batted in. Graduate student Jordan Patterson ranks second on the team with a .342 batting average and has seven runs batted in. Patterson has been strong on the mound this season for the Blazers as he has compiled a 2.86 ERA and 2-2 record on the season. He ranks third in the conference with 45 total strikeouts. Senior outfielder Andrew Wenner paces the team with 14 runs batted in, 15 runs scored, and has hit three home runs. Junior outfielder Nick Rampone ranks fourth in the conference with four triples on the season.
 
The Blazers in the Playoffs: Hood is making its third-straight appearance in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. In 2018, the Blazers stunned Widener with a walk-off win to advance to their first appearance in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament Championship Game during the program's young history. Hood earned the number one seed in the 2019 conference tournament before being eliminated with losses to Widener and Arcadia.
 
Series: The Blazers hold a 10-5 overall series record over the Lions since the program debuted in 2015. Hood has won 10 of the last 12 games in the series after the Lions won the first three meetings in the 2015 season. The teams have never met in postseason play.
 
Last Meeting: The Lions last faced the Blazers in 2019 for a three-game series. Hood opened the weekend by winning 14-4 at Kelchner Field before sweeping the Lions in a doubleheader at Frederick behind two shutouts.
 
Head Coaches: Jeff Feiler is in his 23rd season as head coach of Albright. He has compiled a record of 268-482 in his seasons with the team, and is the winningest coach in program history. This will be the fourth time that he has led the Lions to a berth in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament since becoming head coach in 1999.
 
Michael Impellittiere is in his fourth season as the head coach of Hood. The Blazers have qualified for the MAC Commonwealth Tournament in every season it was held since Impellittiere became head coach. In his first season of 2018, the Blazers advanced to the MAC Commonwealth Championship Game against Arcadia along with winning a program record 32 games. In 2019, the Blazers tied for first in the conference regular season standings with Alvernia.
 
Up Next: The winner will advance to the quarterfinals of the MAC Commonwealth Tournament and will travel to face top-seeded York in a best of three quarterfinal series starting on Saturday, May 1st.
