Where: Quick Stadium

Kick-off: 12:00 p.m.

KINGS RECAP

This past Saturday the Albright Lions lost a heartbreaker to Kings College in the annual Pretzel bowl in overtime. Kings won the game by a final score of 27-21. The visitors jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead. Albright battled back in the second half behind timely defense. The Albright defense did not allow Kings to score in the third and fourth quarters allowing Albirght to score 21 unanswered points. Ryan Rapp tied the school record for sacks in a game with four and added a fumble recovery to his name for good measure.

COACH COLLINS FACES FORMER TEAM

Collins spent three seasons at the helm of the Widener football program from 2010-2012 where they posted a record of 25-8. In the 2012 season, he led the Pride to a Middle Atlantic Conference title while also guiding them to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals for the first time since 2001. As a result of their success, Collins was named the MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year, the D3Football.com East Region Coach of the Year and the Maxwell Touchdown Club's Tri State Coach of the Year.

LEADING TACKLERS IN THE MAC

Sam Viera and Daniel Vital have been tackling machines in 2022 and they have the stats to prove it. The Linebacking duo is first and second in the MAC for solo tackles. Viera has 51 solo tackles and Vital has 41 total tackles. The next closest solo tackler has 31 on the season. Viera and Vital are also the only two defensive players in the MAC that are currently averaging over 10.0 tackles per game.

GETTING TO THE QB

Ryan Rapp tied the school record for sacks in a game with four against Kings this past weekend. Rapp was instrumental in the second half getting to the quarterback, wrecking the Kings offensive game plan. He was named Pretzel bowl defensive MVP after the game. The senior defensive end could not have picked a better time to have the best game of his career.

STRENGTH AND WEAKNESS

The Albright second half defense has been solid throughout the entire season. Through six games the Lions have only given up 82 total second half points. The average per game is 13.6 points per second half which is just under two touchdowns and two extra points allowed. For Widener, they have only scored 69 total second half points this season. The average per game is 11.5 points per second half. Something will have to give but in these scenarios the defense usually wins out.

ABOUT WIDENER

Widener comes into play today holding a 1-5 overall record and are 0-4 in the MAC. The Pride has dropped four games in a row and lost last week to Alvernia 19-16. The four-game losing streak is the longest such streak for Widner since the 2009 season. The Prides leading tailback Shawn Thompson is a bright spot on the Widener offense. Thompson is both fifth in the MAC totalling 474 rushing yards through six games and touchdowns with five. Widener has taken the last three games over Albright. The Pride's three game win streak is followed by Albrights three game win streak from 2015-2017. Overall, the two teams are 3-3 in their last six matchups. If history is any indication today's game is shaping up to be a highly competitive one.
