ALVERNIA RECAP

The cross-town rivals squared off in a low scoring high energy contest. Alvernia won the game 21-14 but the victory was not easy to come by. The game was tied 7-7 at the half but Alvernia used two second half touchdowns to pull away from Albright and win the game. Michael Starkey started at quarterback and led the Lions on an opening 14 play touchdown drive. Dahlia Adams capped off the scoring drive taking the direct snap and forcing his way in for the score. The opening drive took off half of the play clock in the opening quarter. Albright looked poised to tie things back up when John Leighty hauled in a 42-yard reception in the fourth quarter putting the Lions in opposing territory. However, it was not meant to be as the Alvernia defense stood tall, stalling out the Albright possession and ultimately winning the game.

CHASING HISTORY

Two Albright defenders have a chance tomorrow (Nov 12) to etch their names in the Albright football history books. Senior Linebacker Sam Viera needs nine total tackles against Lebanon Valley to become Albright's leading tackler in school history. Viera has amassed 375 tackles to date in his career and will need to reach at least 383 total tackles by Saturday for at least a share of the all-time record. Senior defensive end Ryan Rapp is also within striking distance of the single season Albright sack record. The school record is 11.5 sacks in a single season. Rapp has 11 sacks so far this year and will need just one sack on Saturday to own the single season sack record. A half sack would be good enough to tie the record.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Albright's Punter Keil Heineman has established himself as one of the MAC's top punters of the 2022 season. Heineman has punted for a total of 1,955 yards which is the highest total yardage in the MAC conference. Heineman also has four such games where at least one punt has traveled over 50 yards. Heineman's best game was against Kings when he booted a 64-yard punt pinning Kings deep in their own territory. The 64-yard punt was the second longest for any punter in the MAC during the 2022 season.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY

Back in 2017, the Albright football team defeated Lebanon Valley College for their eighth win of the year. The 28-14 victory was Albright's third in a row to cap off the 2017 regular season. At the time, the 28-14 win gave Albright their fifth win in the last six games against LVC from 2012-2017. The Albright football team zipped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead on its way to a 28-14 victory over Lebanon Valley at Shirk Stadium. The Albright defense forced five turnovers, including four in the first half. All 28 Albright points came off Lebanon Valley turnovers. Mike Jordan had a team-high 102 yards on four catches. Milton Cordero led the Lions with six grabs for 64 yards. Malik Jackson and Kyle Dickerson each had four receptions, Dickerson also led the Lions with 44 rushing yards. On the defensive side, Grant Boehler had a game-high 11 tackles. Isaiah Baylor, Alex Isaac, Nate Steffen and Enosh Motachwa each finished with six tackles.

SCOUTING LEBANON VALLEY

The Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College bring a 4-5 overall record and a 4-3 MAC record into the regular season finale against Albright. LVC has dropped three straight contests including their last two home games. The Lions will look to play spoiler in preventing the Dutchmen from finishing their regular season with a .500 overall record. LVC has won two of the last three matchups over Albright in the head to head series. The LVC offense is the teams' strongest unit. The LVC offense averages over 330 yards per game effectively moving the ball on the ground and through the air. On the ground, LVC rushes for 172 yards per game and 4.4 yards a carry. The Dutchmen have scored 16 rushing touchdowns this season. All of the previous rushing statistics have LVC ranked fourth or better in the MAC conference. Braden Bohannon is LVC's top tailback and sits in sixth in the MAC conference totaling 468 yards rushing. Defensively, LVC has been gashed on the ground. The Dutchmen are giving up 179.3 yards per game on the ground and have allowed the opposition to score 14 rushing touchdowns. Albright will look to take advantage of the Lebanon Valley running the ball. The last time these two teams squared up in Annville, LVC won 30-24 in a double overtime thriller back in 2018.
