FDU-FLORHAM RECAP
The Albright Lions fell to the FDU-Florham Devils by a score of 10-2 this past Saturday. It was a defensive battle for both sides as the only offensive points were scored in the second quarter. The hosts converted a 30-yard field goal and scored a touchdown in the frame. The Lions were on the board in the second half thanks to a sack in the endzone forcing FDU-Florham into a safety. Albright had opportunities to get back into the contest but struggled to get the offense going. Defensively, the Lions were once again led by Daniel Vital and Sam Viera, who had 13 and 10 tackles respectively, with Viera adding a sack.Â
Â
HONORING OUR SENIORSÂ
Prior to the start of Saturday's game, the Albright football program will honor their 19 seniors for all their hard work and dedication throughout the years to the program. The graduating seniors are Daniel Vital, Antwan Rogers Jr., Lucas Roselli, Sam Viera, Ryan Rapp, Omar Sesay, Quincy Clark, Cameron Thomas, Gabe Kuehn, Jeff Joseph, Eddie Harkins, Joshua Alexander, Jakob Banks, Christian Jusino, John Leighty, Sidney Walker, Daniel Lewis, Tysen Spriggs and Michael Starkey.Â
Â
CLOSING IN ON A SCHOOL RECORD
Senior defensive end Ryan Rapp is in the midst of one of best seasons in school history for a defensive end. Rapp has played in seven games and has 10 total sacks. If Rapp can bring down the opposing quarterback twice more behind the line of scrimmage, Rapp will etch his name in history with 12 sacks breaking the previous record of 11.5. Rapp started the season slow but has been on fire as of late. The senior has nine sacks in his last three games alone. With two more games to play, Rapp will look to keep his hot streak going and forever become a part of history for Albright football.Â
Â
STRONG DEFENSEÂ
Last week against FDU-Florham the Albright Lions held the opposing team to 10 or fewer points for the first time since late in the 2019 season. The Devils only scored in the second quarter fighting for every yard against Albright. The best defensive game of the year for Albright nearly carried them to a win against FDU-Florham and will look to keep Alvernia off the scoreboard in the same fashion.Â
Â
LINEBACKING DUO
The linebacking duo of Sam Viera and Daniel Vital continue to shine for the Albright football team. Both Viera and Vital find themselves in the top five in the country for solo tackles. Combined Viera and Vital have made 114 solo tackles which is by far the most for a twosome in the entire country. Viera is also near the top of the leaderboard for total tackles. The senior linebacker is second in the country for total tackles, having recorded 97 total this year. With two games left to play Viera and Vital will look to finish their elite seasons on a high note.Â

THIS DAY IN HISTORYÂ
Wide receiver Vinny Williams caught four touchdown passes to tie the school record while lifting the Albright football team to a 43-14 win over Misericordia on November 5, 2016, at Shirk Stadium. He finished with 10 catches for 94 yards in the game for an outstanding performance. Williams became the second player in school history to record four touchdown catches in a game, joining Eric Nemec in a 1996 game against Delaware Valley. Albright's defense held the Cougars to a three-and-out on the opening possession of the second half, and Williams made three receptions on the Lions' ensuing drive. The third of those catches was a seven-yard touchdown strike to make it 36-14. That also pulled him into a tie with Nemec for the school record. On the defensive side, Grant Boehler led the attack with 12 tackles and a sack. Donte Thomas had an interception and one of two punt blocks for Albright. Kevin Mason had the other. He also finished with five tackles. Andrew Young had the other interception for Albright.
Â
SCOUTING ALVERNIAÂ
Alvernia will make the short trip across town to pay a visit to the Albright Lions. The Golden Wolves bring a 2-6 overall record and a 1-5 record in MAC conference play. Alvernia defeated Oberlin College (Ohio) and Widener earlier this year. Alvernia's football program is still in the early stages of their history. Alvernia's first full season of NCAA football came back in the 2018 season. Albright's own Ralph Clark was named Alvernia's first head football coach and spent four seasons at the helm. Albright won the only previous meeting between the two schools earning a 31-21 victory in 2021. Alvernia's Running Back EJ Lee is a player of note for the Golden Wolves. The tailback has rushed for the fourth most yards in the MAC this year totaling 537 yards. Lee is also in the top three in all-purpose yards for the MAC producing 857. The do it all running back will be a focal point of the formidable Albright defense.
