READING, Pa. - The Albright Lions football team is getting ready to host Widener University on Saturday, October 21. Saturday's game marks the 72nd Rajah Shrine Pretzel bowl and will kick-off from Shirk Stadium at 12 p.m.

72nd RAJAH SHRINE PRETZEL BOWL:
Albright College will be welcoming the Rajah Shriners to Shirk Stadium this Saturday, as we celebrate the 71st version of the Pretzel Bowl. For more than 75 years, the Shriners have operated a network of specialized hospitals that treat children with orthopedic problems, burns and spinal cord injuries, up to their 18th birthday, regardless of their ability to pay. The 2023 game marks the 72nd version of the Rajah Shrine Pretzel Bowl. All proceeds generated from Saturday's game will be donated to Shriner's Hospitals. Tickets are $5.00. There will be an MVP announced for each team following the game.
Ryan Rapp was named the Pretzel Bowl MVP in 2022 for Albright.
ABOUT ALBRIGHT
Daniel Farley earned his first career start at quarterback last time out against Eastern University. Farley had a strong day rushing the ball for the Lions totaling 49 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Farley scored his first career touchdown in the second quarter after orchestrating a 15 play 70-yard touchdown drive.
The Albright defense has forced eight total turnovers this season across six games played. The eight forced turnovers are made up of four interceptions and four fumble recoveries. Last time out against Eastern Albright recovered two fumbles.
Angelo Hernandez leads the team with two interceptions this season. The two-interception total is good for T3 in the MAC.
Taylor Heflin has forced two fumbles and has recovered two fumbles. Heflin's two fumbles forced and recovered are tied for tops in the MAC.
ABOUT WIDENER
Widener comes into today's game on a one game win streak beating Misericordia 31-27 a week ago. Saturday's game will be the first road game for Misericordia since September 24. Widener sports a 1-1 road record on the season with a win over Alvernia and a loss to Stevenson.
The Pride bring with them the MAC's second-best offense heading into Saturday's game scoring 31.8 points per game. The offense is led by quarterback Chase Diehl. Diehl leads the MAC conference in yards (1,345) and touchdown passes (16) through six games this season. Diehl is accompanied by running back Shawn Thompson who has complied 529 yards on the ground and has rushed for three touchdowns.
The Widener defense is giving up over 300 yards per game and allowing 4.8 yards per play. In addition, the Pride defense has given up 19 total touchdowns through six games played. The Pride defense is led by Jalen Walker and Dom D'Alessio. The duo sits fourth and fifth in the MAC Conference in sacks this year with 4.5 and 4 recorded, respectively. Linebacker Collin Murt, who captains the Widener defense, has made 48 tackles this season which is good for sicth in all of the MAC.
