YORK, Pa. - The Albright women's college swimming team competed in the 2023 MAC Swimming championships and were well represented on the podium. Laurel Gingrich claimed gold in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and took home the silver in the 50 freestyle on her way to being named 2023 David B. Eavenson Swimmer of the Year.
Laurel Gingrich won the 100 freestyle on day one of the 2023 MAC Swimming Championships. Gingrich blazed through the pool winning the gold in a time of 52.29. Also on day one of the Championships Gingrich tied a school record in the 50-yard freestyle. With a time of 24.20 Gingrich tied the school record on her way to her second podium finish of the day.
On day four of the Championships Gingrich had her sights set on another first place finish and was able to do just that. This time Gingrich was crowned MAC Champion in the 100 freestyle, besting the field with a time of 1:55.60.
Gingrich earned the most individual points of any women's participant in the Championships ending with a total of 92 individual points. Gingrich is the first recipient of the David B. Eavenson Swimmer of the Year award since 2008 (Rachel Cantwell). Gingrich is a three sport athlete at Albright also being a member of the field hockey and track and field teams.
In all, Albright women's swimming went nine for nine in podium finishes during the final races. Each swimmer that participated in a finals event earned a spot on the podium in their respective events. The podium finishers are listed below:
