Women's Volleyball Downs Penn State Abington in Four Sets 3-1

The Albright women's volleyball team has run their win streak to six games with a 3-1 victory of Penn State Abington on Tuesday (Sept. 12) night.

ABINGTON, PA. - The Albright women's volleyball team (6-1) has run their win streak to six games with a 3-1 victory over Penn State Abington  (3-4). The Lions dropped the first set but roared all the way back winning the next three sets with ease to win their second road game of the year.

Tonight's win for the Lions is their sixth in a row coming against non conference opponents. Albright has won both of their games on the road this season only dropping one set in the process. Penn State Abington came into this game having won their last two games but the win streak would stop at two at the hands of the Lions.


ALBRIGHT 3 PSU ABINGTON 1 (23-25, 25-6, 25-14, 27-25)

Penn State Abington won the first set in tonight's match 25-23 over Albright.

The second set was a much different story as Albright regrouped in between sets and dominated set number two. With the second set being tied at 3-3, Albright went on a 22-4 run to close out the set and tie the match. Seven different Lions recorded a kill in the second set in a balanced offense attack.

Albright won the third set taking a 2-1 lead in the match and looked to close out the match in the fourth set. Penn State Abington mounted a comeback to tie the fourth set at 25-25 but Albright stood tall winning the fourth set 27-25 and taking the match in the process.

As a team the Lions finished with 29 service aces led by Lindsey Korn who had nine and Paola Mejias who had eight. Including Korn and Mejias, Albright finished with five different players recording at least three service aces.

Offensively, Albright was led by Sophie Hampton finishing with a team high 11 kills. The double digit kills marks the third straight game with at least 10 kills for Hampton.

Ryenn Mamrosch tallied 16 assists and seven digs doing a little bit of everything for the Lions. Neve Straff filled up the box score going for eight kills, four service aces and 10 digs.
