Women’s Volleyball Tops Cairn; Wins Seventh in a Row

The Albright women’s volleyball team returned home squaring off against Carin University in non-conference action. The Lions won the match 3-1 clinching their seventh win in a row.

READING, PA. – The Albright women's volleyball team (7-1) played in their eighth straight non-conference game of to open the season squaring off against Cairn (3-3) at the Bollman Center tonight. The Lions won the match 3-1 over the Highlanders making it seven wins in a row.  

Albright has won seven games in a row for the first time since at least the 2009 season.

Tonight's game marked the sixth time the two schools have matched up since the 2011 season. The Lions avenged last season's loss to Cairn by protecting home floor tonight at the Bollman Center.

Albright 3 Cairn 1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16)

After trailing late in the first set, the Lions roared back in set number one to tie things up at 18-18. From that point on the Lions went on a 7-2 run to close out set number one and take an early lead.

Cairn won the second set by two points and tied the match up at one.

Albright would regroup and come out swinging in sets number three and four. The Lions had all the momentum on their side after winning the third set with ease before taking care of business in the fourth set to close out the Highlanders and win the match 3-1.

It was another strong offensive showing from first year Neve Straff who finished with a game high and team high 13 kills. Straff filled up the box score tonight in addition to the kills going for four aces and 14 digs.

Rachel Etim finished with 11 kills, five blocks and one ace in an all-around great game for the sophomore middle blocker.

Paola Mejias and Ryenn Mamrosch set up their teammates all night putting them in great opportunities to score. Mejias finished with 20 assists and Mamrosch had 19.

Four different Lions registered at least 12 digs in tonight's game led by Kyra Lycett who tallied 25 digs. Straff had 14 digs, Mejias 13 and Lindsey Korn added 12 digs of her own rounding out the strong Lion defense.

The Albright women's volleyball team will be right back in action heading to Saint Elizabeth University tomorrow (Sept.15) night. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from Morristown New Jersey.
