Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match over Wilson and Moravian

The Albright women's volleyball team played in their third Tri-match of the season on Saturday and their first one on the road. The Lions swept today's tri-match reaching double digit wins (10) on the season in the process

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Albright women's volleyball team (10-2) got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon sweeping the tri-match against Wilson Phoenix (0-12) and the Moravian Greyhounds (4-7). The two wins today gives Albright 10 wins on the season and now back to back seasons with double digit wins.

Albright has played in three tri-matches this season and now has a 5-1 record in the six matches played.


ALBRIGHT 3 / WILSON 0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-15)

Albright controlled the match from start to finish against Wilson. The Lions swept the match without much resistance.

The Lions used a balanced offense attack in game number one of the tri-match to lead them to victory. Six different Lions recorded at least one kill in the match.

Neve Straff led the way with eight kills while Rachel Etim, Elle Haddon and Carly Fincham each had seven kills. Straff put together an all around great game one adding five service aces and 11 digs to her eight kills.

Lindsey Korn was active defensively recording 13 digs leading the charge. Paola Mejias finished with 19 assists against Wilson.

ALBRIGHT 3 / MORAVIAN 2 (19-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-23, 16-14)

Albright dropped the first two sets to Moravian and after that, the comeback was on and the Lions began to catch fire.

In the third set the Lions trailed 24-23 on the brink of suffering a loss. However, the Lions continued to battle and would rattle off the set's next three points to take the third set 26-24. A Sophie Hampton kill and Kyra Lycett ace closed out the third set for the Lions.

Albright had ice in their veins yet again in the fourth set. The fourth set was tied at 23-23 and from there Albright perceived to win the fourth set and send the match to a decisive fifth set.

The fifth and final set went to Albright completing one of the most impressive comebacks you will see. After trailing 11-6 in the fifth and final set, the Lions rallied for 10 of the set's final 13 points to win the match.

In the five set thriller, Straff once again led the team with 14 kills, Rachel Etim added 12 kills and Hampton finished with 10 kills as the Lions in double figures of kills.

Mejias and Lycett each had four aces in the match, leading Albright. As a team the Lions finished with 17 aces.

Mejias finished with 23 digs, Straff with 20 and Lindsey Korn with 14.

Albright returns home on Tuesday, September 26 for a MAC Commonwealth battle against Hood College. The game will start at 7 p.m. from the Bollman Center.
