Men’s Tennis Downs Alvernia 5-4

The Albright men’s tennis team was in action on Saturday afternoon battling against the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University. The Lions picked up their first conference win of the season winning 5-4 over Alvernia.

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's tennis team (3-3 Spring '24, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) went on the road for their third MAC Commonwealth match of the season and picked up a big time road win over Alvernia (2-2 Spring '24, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) by a final score of 5-4.

The win today for the Lions is the first over Alvernia in the last 14 years. Albright won four of the six singles matches and took home one of three doubles matches to win the match 5-4.

Gerardo Sanchez won his #3 singles match in a three-set tiebreaker. Sanchez won the first set and dropped the second sending the match into a tiebreak. Sanchez prevailed in the end winning the match 6-3 earning the first singles team point of the day for Albright.

Dylan Huha's #4 singles match also went to a third set tiebreak and again came out on top for Albright. Huha dropped the first set and battled all the way back to take the next two sets over the opposition. Huha won 6-4 in the second set and dominated in the third and final set winning 6-1.

Clay Lewandowski put on a clinic today in his match winning easily in straight sets. Lewandowski won 6-1 in the first set and cruised to the win taking the second set 6-2.

Kobe Serpa wrapped up the singles matches for the Lions in style. Serpa left no doubt who was the better player in his #6 singles match winning 6-2, 6-1.

#3 doubles match went to Albright giving the Lions the match. Adam Good and Lewandowski teamed up and put together a fantastic performance winning 8-0 in a clean sweep.

The Lions picked up their first MAC Commonwealth win of the year inserting themselves back into the thick of the playoff race.

The Lions will remain on the road heading to Stevenson on Tuesday, April 16 for a matchup with the Mustangs which is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
