READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions volleyball team (1-0, 0-0) opened their season with a win in front of their home crowd against Bryn Athyn (0-1, 0-0). This was both head coach Kayla Zelonka's first game and win as the team's head coach.
With this victory, Albright not only remains unbeaten against Bryn Athyn (4-0 lifetime), but also remains unbeaten in total sets after recording a sweep for the fourth time in as many meetings.
Sophomores
Neve Straff and
Carly Fincham tied for the lead in kills with eight. Also contributing to kills was senior
Sophie Hampton who recorded seven on the day.
Paola Mejias helped the team pull away in their first set with four services aces as part of a 6-0 run. Mejias would also end up leading the team in assists with 16.
Rachel Etim remained active on defense and recorded a team high three blocks.
The biggest run of the night for Albright would come in the second set as
Sophie Hampton recorded either a service ace or kill for the final six points of a 7-0 run. Hampton would wind up leading the team in points with 11.
After a close 25-21 second set win, the team saved their best for last with a dominating 25-7 win to close the match out and secure the sweep.
