LANGHORNE, Pa. – Volleyball was locked into a back and forth match against Cairn on Tuesday night going five full sets. The Lions prevailed in the end taking the match 3-2 over the Highlanders. The win improves Albright to 6-2 while Cairn falls to 5-2.
Tonight's match was the first five set match of the season for Albright. Including tonight, Albright is 5-1 in five set matches over the last two seasons.
Multiple Lions set career highs tonight in the match.
Sophie Hampton and
Paola Mejias set career highs in digs while
Neve Straff set a career high in kills.
Albright dropped the first set but rebounded to win the next two sets. After Cairn took the fourth set the match was headed to a decisive fifth set. In the fifth set, the Lions proved who was the stronger side. A 7-2 run from the Lions closed the match securing the thrilling win.
Tonight, was a true team win for Albright as the Lions got contributions from up and down the lineup. Three players had at least 12 kills while three players had at least 24 digs.
Straff has been a force this season on offense for Albright. The sophomore Lion set a new career high in kills this evening with 17. Straff added four aces and 12 digs on the all-around impressive night.
Hampton was third on the team in kills tonight with 12 and also shined defensively for the Lions. The senior outside hitter recorded a career high 25 digs. Tonight, was the first match this season where Hampton recorded at least 10 kills and digs.
Mejias matched Hampton setting a new career high in digs with 24. Mejias was not done their as she tallied 44 assists, three block assists, two aces and two kills.
Rachel Etim was strong throughout the match filling out the stat sheet. Etim finished with 16 kills, six block assists and three aces.
Lindsey Korn went for 24 digs marking the sixth double digit assist output of the season. Korn exceeded the 20-dig threshold for the fourth time in her career tonight.
