Volleyball drops MAC Commonwealth Opener against Stevenson

The Lions played their first conference match of the season after winning 10 of their first 12 to open the season. Following four sets, the visiting Mustangs won the match 3-1.

READING, Pa. – Volleyball (10-3, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) played in their first conference match of the season against Stevenson (8-4, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth). This game also saw the visiting Mustangs open up their conference play as well. Following four sets, the Mustangs would secure a 3-1 win over the Lions. 
 
Three of the four sets were decided by 10 points or less in which turned out to be a stellar effort for the Lions despite the final score. 
 
Following a loss in the first set, the Lions would take set two by a score of 25-19 which included a 5-1 run to help build up a comfortable lead. 
 
The Mustangs would go on to take sets three and four by a combined six points. 
 
Sophie Hampton led the way for the Lions in both kills and attacks with 16 and 45 respectively. Hampton's 16 points were good for second on the team.
 
Neve Straff recorded a team high 20 points to go along with 14 kills, 11 digs, one assist and two blocks. 
 
Joining Straff in the multiple blocks category was Elle Haddon who registered a pair of her own along with three kills and 5.5 points. 
 
Paola Mejias recorded 36 assists bringing her total to 364 on the season. This is Mejias' sixth time recording 30 or more assists this season.

The Lions will remain at home for a match against Rosemont of Friday (9/27) before jumping back into conference play against Alvernia and York. The match against Rosemont will start at 5:00 p.m.
